In a break from tradition we are holding an online exhibition of paintings ranging in date from the early 17th to the early 20th Centuries and with asking prices from £ 2,500 to £ 15,000.
It has been fun to source and put together. The general remit has been to unearth paintings we find visually interesting, as well as artistically so. Where possible, the frames are the original frames and condition has been paramount.
The price limit has meant we have found some paintings by artists who are not household names and who have little recorded work, but who nevertheless merit a second glance, not least because of their obvious artistic talent. Too much store is sometimes set on a name rather than taking a painting at face value – as a result, so many beautiful paintings go undiscovered or ignored. Something we hope to change with this online show.
This exhibition hopes to revive the ‘old fashioned’ desire to buy a painting because of the wish to have and live with it, rather than its monetary value.
