Essay:
Nicolaes Ficke was a Dutch landscape painter born in Haarlem. His birth date is not known exaxctly but we do know that in 1642 he became apprenticed to Philips Wouwermans, also in Haarlem. However, the tonality of his paint and this treatment of landscape perspective is much more in the tradition of Adam Pynacker and Jan Both than that of his master. He painted predominantly landscapes with figures and horses.
